NFL may be kicking off this week, but Kids in the Game is thinking about another sport: basketball. The team is excited to announce the addition of former professional basketball player, Trevor Huffman, who will be leading the growing King Hoops NYC basketball program. Trevor recently retired from a 13+ year professional career overseas, which included being named Belgian’s Guard of the Year as well as winning several team championships. In 2002/2003, Trevor spent time with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. In his collegiate career, Trevor became Kent State University’s all-time leading scorer, a mid-major All-American, and led the Golden Flashes to an Elite Eight appearance that is considered one of the greatest Cinderella runs in tournament history.
Trevor will join the KinG team as Director of Basketball Operations and lead the King Hoops NYC basketball program with Kids in the Game president and former Columbia University basketball coach, Michael Murphy. The King Hoops program will include training programs, youth teams, youth leagues, sports performance, and summer camps. The team is looking forward to turning King Hoops NYC into the premier basketball program in the city.
Kids in the Game Co-Founder, Matt Murphy, grew up in the same hometown (Petoskey, Michigan) as Trevor and connected the two parties. “I couldn’t be more excited to have Trevor on board. Having such a decorated player to teach the game is one thing, but Trevor has a distinct way of inspiring people to work harder, set goals, and reach them – that is what makes him such an ideal fit for our team and brand. He’s always had an underdog attitude and someone that has outworked his competition at every level. We’re ready to get to work teaching others that same work ethic and attitude.”

About Trevor Huffman:
Trevor brings the highest level of professional basketball experience, both as a player and a coach, to the Kids in the Game & King Hoops NYC team. Before joining KinG in 2015, Trevor played college basketball at Kent State University, becoming their all-time leading scorer, mid-major All-American, and ESPN Cinderella, as his team made it to the Elite Eight during his senior campaign in 2002. After graduating with an educational studies technology degree, Trevor had stints with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks before going onto a well-decorated 12-year professional career in Europe. While in Europe, Trevor won several team championships, Eurobasket.com’s All-Import Team awards, and was named Belgian’s Guard of the Year.
During the off-season, Trevor also started and directed a summer basketball skills academy in northern Michigan aimed at helping kids get to the next level. His skills academy helped high school, college, and professional level players learn what was necessary to maximize their potential and reach for the stars. Trevor loves learning about optimizing lives, traveling to different areas of the world, and helping people reach their goals and dreams. Trevor is looking to use his experience, positive energy, and passion for helping others build Kids in the Game and KinG Hoops into one of the premier basketball and sports performance programs in the country.
